"This has been one of the best years of my life…You made that possible." -- Shukia, Class of 2006
Student/Mentor
Actvities
Some great one-on-one activities include movies, museums,
plays, sporting events or just going out for a pizza.
Many PEAK students have never experienced these activities
that we so often take for granted. Additionally, mentors
are expected to call their students at least once every
two weeks to catch up on school and activities. Mentors
are encouraged to attend quarterly parent/teacher conferences
at Holy Trinity High School with their students and parent/guardian.
This is a great opportunity to meet one-on-one with each
teacher to gauge progress and formulate plans to improve
grades.
Choices.
Something that many at-risk kids don't realize they have.
Every spring, PEAK hosts a Student/Mentor community service project in partnership with another Chicago-area charitable organization, including Misericordia Home and The Off the Street Club. The kids come away from that Saturday morning with a valuable life lesson: No matter what your background, you always have the ability to effect positive change in your community.
PEAK
hosts seven such Student/Mentor events throughout the
school year that are designed to enhance the educational
experience beyond the classroom and encourage the student/mentor
relationship. These fun, interactive events focus on community service,
cultural, sporting, career and educational activities.
