Become a PEAK Student

Our program offers at-risk youth the opportunity to receive a private high school education and develop to their full potential by providing individual mentoring services and high school scholarships. PEAK provides full scholarships to attend our partnering high school, Holy Trinity. Parents are required to pay $600 a year for books, uniforms, fees, etc.

Each student is placed with an individual adult mentor for their four years of high school. The mentor meets regularly with the student and receives all school progress reports and report cards.

Criteria for acceptance into PEAK:

  • Youth must be entering the 9th grade during the application year in which they are applying.

  • Student must have average grades and standardized test scores at his/her current grade school (low "B" to “C” Average). However, the student has the potential to improve academically.
  • Family must be low to moderately low income and does not have the financial resources to pay their child’s tuition to a private high school. However, the family must be able to pay the $600 a year for books, uniforms, and fees. PEAK asks for tax information and pay-stubs as proof of income.

  • 8th grade youth must take the High School Placement test at Holy Trinity High School and be accepted to attend Holy Trinity High School.

  • The student needs and desires the support of a role model mentor for four years. Most youth have a need for a mentor to support and guide them through adolescence, but they must also WANT to have a mentor and be willing to actively engage in the mentoring program.

Application Process

1. Students who meet the above criteria for acceptance must attend a General Information & Application meeting.  Applications are not given out through the mail and cannot be downloaded through our website. Applications will not be accepted from individuals who do not attend an application meeting.

2. Upon receiving a completed application, applicants and their parent(s) may be invited to participate in an interview. Not all applicants will be invited for an interview. However, applicants cannot be considered for acceptance without an interview.

3. Interviews are conducted during April and May prior to the start of the upcoming school year (e.g. applicants starting school in August 2011 will be interviewed in April or May 2011).

4. Students are accepted into the program in June prior to the start of the upcoming school year.

5. Upon acceptance into the program, students are required to attend summer school at Holy Trinity High School and PEAK’s eight-day freshmen training program in July-early August (prior to the start of the upcoming school year). Failure to attend Holy Trinity’s summer school or the PEAK training program will result in non-participation in the program.

6. Students are matched with their mentor in August (prior to the start of the upcoming school year) at our annual Kick-Off event.

General Information Meetings

If you have further questions or are unsure if this is the program for your child, we urge you to come to a meeting to get more details. Attending the meeting does not obligate you in any way to PEAK and does not guarantee you acceptance into the program.

Upcoming Meetings:

There are no additional application meetings for the 2012-2013 school year.  The application process for the 2013-2014 school year will begin in Fall/Winter 2012.
