A Fun Day "EnPilsen"

Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood is one of the most vibrant artistic communities in the United States. Over the weekend, mentors and scholars experienced docented tours of the National Museum of Mexican Art and the surrounding art murals by local artists. Together we learned about the conversation between Mexican and Mexican-American identity through the permanent collection of one of Chicago’s top-rated museums, thanks to its dynamic resident experts.

“These opportunities help our mentors and scholars experience the beauty and culture found within a neighborhood many of them would have never visited on their own accord,” said Anthony Bolden, PEAK Program Manager. Each Chicago neighborhood offers its own unique culture and history, and we want our scholars to be proud of whichever one they call home.

“When you own your story, no one can own you!” Anthony emphasized during the outing. PEAK strives to ensure its scholars are not only educated academically, but culturally and socially. Cultural exposure deepens scholars’ personal identity and excites their imaginations.
